Green Resilient Village: Youth-led Climate Adaptation and Community Resilience Initiative

Green Resilient Village: Youth-led Climate Adaptation and Community Resilience Initiative is a three-month climate adaptation project implemented by Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation in Mollarchar Union, Gaibandha Sadar. The project aims to strengthen the resilience of flood-prone char communities through locally led, low-cost, and sustainable climate adaptation solutions.

The initiative promotes raised-bed and trellis farming to improve food security during floods, plastic waste collection and eco-brick production to reduce environmental pollution, and community tree plantation to restore local ecosystems. Youth, women, and vulnerable households receive practical training on climate-smart agriculture, disaster preparedness, and environmental management.

A key innovation of the project is the demonstration of a Khudi Bari (raised flood-resilient household structure), inspired by architect Marina Tabassum's concept. The model enables families to safely protect essential household items, food, and important documents during flooding while encouraging wider community adoption of affordable resilience measures.

Through community participation, awareness sessions, and capacity-building activities, the project seeks to improve disaster preparedness, create sustainable livelihood opportunities, enhance food security, and build a greener, more resilient village capable of adapting to the increasing impacts of climate change.
