Distribution and Planting of 500 Saplings in the Hands of Children
As sunlight suddenly broke through the cloudy sky, the playground of Newton Preparatory School lit up with a new glow. Like every other day, little Riyad from grade one walked to school holding his grandfather Mottaleb’s hand. But today was special for Riyad. Because today, he would not only return home after finishing his studies but also with a promise for the future—a sapling in his hand. With that tiny sapling, Riyad dreamed of planting it in his yard, watering it every day, and nurturing it with care. One day, the tree would grow big, give shade, and bear fruit, and perhaps, Riyad would laugh and play under its shelter. In this way, Srijonshil Gaibandha’s Greening Project is inspiring love and responsibility toward nature by placing trees in the hands of children.
On Monday morning (25 August 2025), a unique green initiative was held on the premises of Newton Preparatory School. With the slogan “Green Earth, Plastic-Free Future,” a total of 500 saplings of 10 species were distributed among children. The saplings included neem, krishnachura, drumstick tree, mango, lemon, guava, lychee, amla, arjun, and hog plum. This initiative is part of the second phase of Srijonshil Gaibandha’s Greening Project Season-8. The purpose was not merely to distribute saplings, but to send a message of love and responsibility for nature to the next generation.
The school’s principal, Sukomal Chandra Sarkar, said:
“Giving saplings into the hands of students means placing hope for the future into their hands. Today’s children are tomorrow’s guardians of nature. I congratulate Srijonshil Gaibandha for this initiative. If every child in our school nurtures just one tree, one day these trees will give us cool shade, fruits, and life-giving oxygen.”
The founder and president of Srijonshil Gaibandha, Md. Mehedi Hasan, remarked:
“We believe trees are not just beauty of nature; they are tools for sustaining life. That is why every tree in our greening project is a dream for the future. By giving trees to children, we want them to learn love and responsibility for nature from childhood. With everyone’s support, we want to build a green, clean, and plastic-free Gaibandha.”
Little Muhit Hasan, with a bright smile, said,
“I’m thrilled to get this tree. I will plant it at home and take care of it.”
Fabia Anjum added,
“We get fruits from trees. The trees we received today are very useful. We must take care of them.”
Abdur Rahman joyfully shared,
“Thanks to Srijonshil Gaibandha for gifting us so many trees. We are very happy. We will plant more and more trees. Trees are our friends.”
After the distribution, several saplings were planted in the school premises by students, teachers, parents, and members of Srijonshil Gaibandha. The event was made lively by the active participation of all. The greening project activities were supported by Shoe Palace.
Every tiny hand holding a sapling is like planting a seed of hope for the future. One day these trees will give fruits, shade, and oxygen—and most importantly, they will nurture in children a deep love for the environment. Srijonshil Gaibandha’s Greening Initiative is not just a project but a green movement—where every single tree represents a promise for the future.

শিশুদের হাতে ৫০০ গাছের চারা বিতরণ ও রোপন
মেঘাচ্ছন্ন আকাশের ফাঁক গলে হঠাৎ রোদের ঝিলিক পড়তেই নিউটন প্রিপারেটরী স্কুলের মাঠ যেন আলোকিত হয়ে ওঠে। সেই মাঠেই প্রতিদিনের মতো হাত ধরে স্কুলে আসে প্রথম শ্রেণির শিক্ষার্থী রিয়াদ ও তার দাদু মোত্তালেব। তবে আজকের দিনটা রিয়াদের জন্য বিশেষ। কারণ, আজ সে শুধু পড়াশোনা শেষ করেই বাড়ি ফিরবে না সে ফিরবে হাতে এক টুকরো ভবিষ্যতের প্রতিশ্রুতি নিয়ে। দিনের শেষে তার হাতে তুলে দেওয়া হবে একটি গাছের চারা। ছোট্ট এই চারা নিয়েই রিয়াদের স্বপ্ন বাড়ির উঠোনে রোপণ করবে, প্রতিদিন পানি দেবে, যত্ন করবে। একদিন গাছটি বড় হবে, ছায়া দেবে, ফল দেবে, আর হয়তো তারই ছায়ায় দাঁড়িয়ে রিয়াদ হাসবে, খেলবে। এইভাবেই শিশুদের হাতে গাছ তুলে দিয়ে প্রকৃতির প্রতি ভালোবাসা ও দায়িত্ববোধ জাগিয়ে তুলছে সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধার সবুজায়ন প্রকল্প।
আজ সোমবার (২৫ আগস্ট ২০২৫) সকালে নিউটন প্রিপারেটরী স্কুল প্রাঙ্গণে অনুষ্ঠিত হলো এক ভিন্নধর্মী সবুজায়ন আয়োজন। “সবুজ পৃথিবী, প্লাস্টিকমুক্ত ভবিষ্যৎ” স্লোগানে শিশুদের মাঝে বিতরণ করা হলো ১০ প্রজাতির মোট ৫০০টি গাছের চারা। গাছগুলো হলো- নিম, কৃষ্ণচূড়া, সজনে, আম, লেবু, পেয়ারা, লিচু, আমলকি, অর্জুন ও আমড়া। এ উদ্যোগ সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধার সবুজায়ন প্রকল্প সিজন-৮ এর দ্বিতীয় ধাপের অংশ। গাছের চারাগুলো শুধুমাত্র শিশুদের হাতে তুলে দেওয়াই নয়, বরং আগামী প্রজন্মের কাছে প্রকৃতিকে ভালোবাসার বার্তা পৌঁছে দেওয়াই ছিল মূল উদ্দেশ্য।
নিউটন প্রিপারেটরী স্কুলের অধ্যক্ষ সুকমল চন্দ্র সরকার “শিক্ষার্থীদের হাতে গাছের চারা তুলে দেওয়া মানে তাদের হাতে ভবিষ্যতের আশা তুলে দেওয়া। আজকের এই শিশুরাই আগামী দিনের প্রকৃতি রক্ষক। সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধার এই উদ্যোগকে আমি অভিনন্দন জানাই। আমাদের স্কুলের প্রতিটি শিশু যদি একটি করে গাছ লালন করে, তবে একদিন এ গাছগুলো আমাদের পরিবেশকে শীতল ছায়া দেবে, ফল দেবে, অক্সিজেন দেবে।”
সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধার প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও সভাপতি মোঃ মেহেদী হাসান “আমরা বিশ্বাস করি, গাছ শুধু প্রকৃতির সৌন্দর্য নয়, এটি মানুষের জীবনরক্ষার হাতিয়ার। তাই আমাদের সবুজায়ন প্রকল্পের প্রতিটি গাছই আগামী দিনের জন্য একেকটি স্বপ্ন। শিশুদের হাতে আমরা গাছ দিচ্ছি, যেন তারা শৈশব থেকেই প্রকৃতির প্রতি ভালোবাসা ও দায়িত্ববোধ শেখে। সবার সহযোগিতায় আমরা একটি সবুজ, নির্মল ও প্লাস্টিকমুক্ত গাইবান্ধা গড়ে তুলতে চাই।”
চারা হাতে নিয়ে ছোট্ট মুহিত হাসান উচ্ছ্বসিত কণ্ঠে বলে, “আমি গাছটি পেয়ে অনেক খুশি। বাসায় গিয়ে আমি গাছটি লাগাবো, যত্ন নেবো।”
ফাবিয়া আনজুম বলে, “গাছ থেকে আমরা ফল পাই। আজ যে গাছগুলো আমাদের হাতে এসেছে, সেগুলো অনেক উপকারী। আমাদের গাছের যত্ন নিতে হবে।”
আব্দুর রহমান আনন্দ প্রকাশ করে জানায়, “সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধাকে ধন্যবাদ। আমাদের এতগুলো গাছ উপহার দিয়েছে, আমরা অনেক খুশি হয়েছি আমরা বেশি বেশি করে গাছ লাগাবো। গাছের আমাদের বন্ধু।”
গাছ বিতরণ শেষে স্কুল প্রাঙ্গণে শিক্ষার্থী, শিক্ষক, অভিভাবক এবং সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধার সদস্যদের অংশগ্রহণে বেশ কয়েকটি চারা রোপণ করা হয়। এ আয়োজনকে প্রাণবন্ত করে তোলে সবার সম্মিলিত অংশগ্রহণ। সবুজায়ন প্রকল্প কার্যক্রমে সহযোগিতা করেন সু-প্যালেস।
প্রতিটি ছোট্ট হাতে গাছের চারা মানেই ভবিষ্যতের জন্য একটি বীজ রোপণ। আজকের এই গাছ একদিন ফল দেবে, ছায়া দেবে, অক্সিজেন দেবে- আর সবচেয়ে বড় কথা, এটি শিশুদের মনে পরিবেশের প্রতি ভালোবাসা জাগিয়ে তুলবে। সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধার সবুজায়ন উদ্যোগ কেবল একটি প্রকল্প নয়, এটি এক সবুজ আন্দোলন- যেখানে প্রত্যেকটি গাছ ভবিষ্যতের জন্য একেকটি প্রতিশ্রুতি।
