𝐒𝐫𝐢𝐣𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐥 𝐆𝐚𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐡𝐚 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐬 ‘𝐊𝐡𝐮𝐝𝐢 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐢’ 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐑𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐫𝐞𝐚

Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation, a local volunteer organisation, has constructed a house inspired by the ‘Khudi Bari’ model in Sidhai village, a remote riverine char area of Gaibandha Sadar Upazila. The house was completed after five days of construction work and handed over to the local community on Thursday. ActionAid Bangladesh supported the construction initiative. Local residents hope the structure will provide safe shelter during floods. With the aim of addressing climate change and building disaster-resilient communities, Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation was selected as a National Youth Partner under ActionAid Bangladesh’s ‘Youth-Led Climate Adaptation’ initiative. Among 147 applications submitted from across the country, the organisation was selected for a grant of BDT 130,000. Adding BDT 20,000 from its own funds, the organisation invested a total of BDT 150,000 in constructing the Khudi Bari in the char area of Gaibandha to promote climate-resilient housing and strengthen local disaster preparedness.

Supporting Merit and Dreams: Scholarship and Recognition Ceremony Held in Gaibandha

With the commitment that “Where there is merit, there is potential,” a scholarship and recognition ceremony was held in Gaibandha for meritorious and financially disadvantaged students, along with students who achieved outstanding results in the SSC 2026 examinations. This was the third consecutive year of the initiative. With dreams in one hand and financial limitations in the other, a group of talented students in Gaibandha had been moving forward despite various challenges. Although their academic performance reflected their merit, the financial realities of their families had made the path toward higher education uncertain for many of them. Some have fathers working in low-income jobs, some come from families struggling to bear the educational expenses of multiple children, while others live in households where meeting daily necessities is itself a challenge. Yet, their dreams did not stop. They believe that with the right opportunities, merit can change the course of their lives.

Md. Imam Hasim, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office, Gaibandha, visited the office of Srijonshil Gaibandha and reviewed its ongoing activities on Monday (14 September). Needs Assessment Study under the Green Resilient Village Project

With the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of the real needs, challenges, risks, opportunities, and priorities of the people of Sidhai Char, Mollarchar Union, Gaibandha Sadar, Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation (SGF), with the support of ActionAid Bangladesh, has conducted a Needs Assessment Study under the “Green Resilient Village” Project. The main objective of this activity was to understand the actual situation of local people in areas including their livelihoods, climate and disaster-related risks, agriculture and income sources, environment, waste management, water and sanitation, and to establish a strong foundation for taking effective and sustainable initiatives based on the actual needs of the community.

With a shared commitment to building a corruption-free, transparent, accountable, and sustainable society, a workshop titled "Sustainable Development and Institutional Good Governance: The Role of Youth Organizers" was held in Gaibandha on 23 July 2026. The event was jointly organized by the Conscious Citizens' Committee (SONAK), Gaibandha, and the Youth Engagement and Support (YES) Group, Gaibandha, under the inspiration of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB). More than fifty young representatives from 17 volunteer organizations across the district participated in the workshop.
