Climate Dialogue and Experience Sharing Meeting Held in Gaibandha

A “Climate Dialogue and Experience Sharing Meeting” was held in Gaibandha Sadar Upazila on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, at 11:00 AM at the conference room of the Upazila Parishad.

The event was organized by Srijonshil Gaibandha under the project titled “Gaibandha EcoCycle: Youth Innovation for a Flood-Resilient Green Economy.” It was co-organized by the National Youth Forum (NYF) with support from VSO Bangladesh.

The dialogue focused on the local impacts of climate change, plastic pollution and waste management, production of eco-friendly products, and the role of youth in addressing climate challenges. Speakers highlighted that Gaibandha, a northern district, faces recurring floods, river erosion, and other environmental crises almost every year. Climate change has significantly affected local livelihoods, agriculture, and the overall environment.

The Chief Guest of the event was the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Gaibandha Sadar, Lailatul Hossain. Among others present were National Volunteer of VSO Bangladesh Umme Habiba; Chairman of Kamarjani Union Parishad Md. Matiar Rahman; President of Sachetan Nagorik Committee and Adviser of Srijonshil Gaibandha Afroza Begum Lupu; Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Gaibandha Government College and Adviser ABM Zillur Rahman; Social Services Officer Nasir Uddin Shah; Youth Development Officer Md. Sujon Mia; President of Srijonshil Gaibandha Md. Mehedi Hasan; Project Officer Athar Mihda Tuba; entrepreneur Md. Mahabubur Rahman; eco-friendly pen entrepreneur Shariful Islam; and President of NYF Gaibandha District Belal Hossain, among others.

Around 40 participants including youth organization members, women and youth representatives, local government officials, civil society members, and media personnel actively took part in the discussion and shared their experiences and opinions.

In her বক্তব্য, UNO Lailatul Hossain stated, “The impacts of climate change are no longer distant concerns; they are directly affecting our daily lives. By reducing plastic pollution, promoting eco-friendly products, and ensuring active youth engagement, we can build a sustainable environment.”

Umme Habiba of VSO Bangladesh emphasized that community-based initiatives are crucial in tackling climate risks and that innovative youth-led social initiatives can bring positive change at the local level.

The speakers expressed optimism that through reducing plastic pollution, promoting reusable products, and encouraging environmentally friendly initiatives, climate-resilient communities can be built locally. They called for collective action to address climate risks and ensure sustainable development.

The meeting concluded with a joint call for collaborative efforts to combat the impacts of climate change.

গাইবান্ধায় জলবায়ু সংলাপ ও অভিজ্ঞতা বিনিময় সভা অনুষ্ঠিত

গাইবান্ধা সদর উপজেলায় “জলবায়ু সংলাপ ও অভিজ্ঞতা বিনিময় সভা” অনুষ্ঠিত হয়েছে। মঙ্গলবার (৩ মার্চ ২০২৬) সকাল ১১টায় গাইবান্ধা সদর উপজেলা পরিষদের কনফারেন্স রুমে এই সংলাপ সভা আয়োজন করা হয়।

“গাইবান্ধা ইকোসাইকেল: বন্যা সহনশীল সবুজ অর্থনীতির জন্য তরুণদের উদ্ভাবন” প্রকল্পের আওতায় এই অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করে সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা। সহ-আয়োজক হিসেবে ছিল ন্যাশনাল ইয়ুথ ফোরাম (এনওয়াইএফ) এবং সহযোগিতায় ছিল ভিএসও বাংলাদেশ।

সংলাপ সভায় জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের স্থানীয় প্রভাব, প্লাস্টিক দূষণ ও বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনা, পরিবেশবান্ধব পণ্য তৈরি এবং জলবায়ু পরিবর্তন মোকাবেলায় তরুণদের ভূমিকা নিয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করা হয়। বক্তারা বলেন, উত্তরাঞ্চলের জেলা গাইবান্ধা প্রায় প্রতিবছরই বন্যা, নদীভাঙনসহ বিভিন্ন পরিবেশগত সংকটের সম্মুখীন হয়। জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের প্রভাবে স্থানীয় মানুষের জীবিকা, কৃষি ব্যবস্থা ও পরিবেশ মারাত্মকভাবে ক্ষতিগ্রস্ত হচ্ছে।

অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে উপস্থিত ছিলেন গাইবান্ধা সদর উপজেলার উপজেলা নির্বাহী অফিসার লাইলাতুল হোসেন। এছাড়াও উপস্থিত ছিলেন ভিএসও বাংলাদেশের ইনক্লুশন অ্যান্ড পার্টিসিপেটরি প্র্যাকটিস বিভাগের ন্যাশনাল ভলান্টিয়ার উম্মে হাবিবা; কামারজানি ইউনিয়ন পরিষদের চেয়ারম্যান মোঃ মতিয়ার রহমান; সচেতন নাগরিক কমিটির সভাপতি ও সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধার উপদেষ্টা আফরোজা বেগম লুপু; গাইবান্ধা সরকারি কলেজের দর্শন বিভাগের সহকারী অধ্যাপক ও সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধার উপদেষ্টা এবিএম জিল্লুর রহমান; গাইবান্ধা সদর সমাজসেবা অফিসার নাসির উদ্দিন শাহ; যুব উন্নয়ন কর্মকর্তা মোঃ সুজন মিয়া; সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা’র সভাপতি মোঃ মেহেদী হাসান; প্রজেক্ট অফিসার আতহার মিহদা তুবা; উদ্যোক্তা মোঃ মাহাবুবুর রহমান; পরিবেশবান্ধব কলম উদ্যোক্তা শরিফুল ইসলাম; এবং এনওয়াইএফ গাইবান্ধা জেলার সভাপতি বেলাল হোসেন প্রমুখ।

সভায় স্থানীয় যুব সংগঠনের সদস্য, নারী ও তরুণ প্রতিনিধি, স্থানীয় সরকার প্রতিনিধি, সুশীল সমাজের প্রতিনিধি ও গণমাধ্যমকর্মীসহ বিভিন্ন অংশীজন অংশগ্রহণ করেন। প্রায় ৪০ জন অংশগ্রহণকারী সংলাপে অংশ নিয়ে নিজেদের মতামত ও অভিজ্ঞতা তুলে ধরেন।

প্রধান অতিথি লাইলাতুল হোসেন বলেন, “জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের প্রভাব এখন আর দূরের কোনো বিষয় নয়; এটি আমাদের দৈনন্দিন জীবনে সরাসরি প্রভাব ফেলছে। প্লাস্টিক দূষণ কমানো, পরিবেশবান্ধব পণ্যের ব্যবহার বাড়ানো এবং তরুণদের সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণের মাধ্যমে একটি টেকসই পরিবেশ গড়ে তোলা সম্ভব।”

ভিএসও বাংলাদেশের ন্যাশনাল ভলান্টিয়ার উম্মে হাবিবা বলেন, “জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের ঝুঁকি মোকাবেলায় কমিউনিটি ভিত্তিক উদ্যোগ অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। তরুণদের উদ্ভাবনী চিন্তা ও সামাজিক উদ্যোগ স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তন আনতে পারে।”

বক্তারা আরও বলেন, প্লাস্টিক দূষণ কমানো, পুনর্ব্যবহারযোগ্য পণ্যের ব্যবহার বৃদ্ধি এবং পরিবেশবান্ধব উদ্যোগ গ্রহণের মাধ্যমে স্থানীয় পর্যায়ে জলবায়ু সহনশীল কমিউনিটি গড়ে তোলা সম্ভব। তরুণদের সক্রিয় অংশগ্রহণ এবং প্রশাসনের সহযোগিতায় পরিবেশ সংরক্ষণ ও টেকসই উন্নয়ন নিশ্চিত করা যাবে বলেও তারা আশাবাদ ব্যক্ত করেন।

সভা শেষে জলবায়ু পরিবর্তনের ঝুঁকি মোকাবেলায় সবাইকে সম্মিলিতভাবে কাজ করার আহ্বান জানানো হয়।
