Needs Assessment Study under the Green Resilient Village Project

With the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of the real needs, challenges, risks, opportunities, and priorities of the people of Sidhai Char, Mollarchar Union, Gaibandha Sadar, Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation (SGF), with the support of ActionAid Bangladesh, has conducted a Needs Assessment Study under the “Green Resilient Village” Project. The main objective of this activity was to understand the actual situation of local people in areas including their livelihoods, climate and disaster-related risks, agriculture and income sources, environment, waste management, water and sanitation, and to establish a strong foundation for taking effective and sustainable initiatives based on the actual needs of the community.

As part of the needs assessment activities, a 6-member team of Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation (SGF) conducted an initial field assessment in Sidhai Char on 04 August 2026. Subsequently, field-level data collection was carried out on 18–19 August 2026 with the involvement of local youth volunteers. The participation of local youth made it possible to establish direct communication with community members, learn about their experiences and opinions, and collect information on the local context. Following this, on 26 August 2026, a 2-member team of Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation (SGF) revisited Sidhai Char to conduct follow-up assessment, verify collected information, and observe the local situation.

An important part of this Needs Assessment was to comparatively understand the actual situations of two char areas. Alongside Sidhai Char, we also visited Koraibari area of Kamarjani Union. We tried to understand the similarities and differences between the two char areas in terms of people’s livelihoods, climate risks, agriculture and income sources, environmental challenges, access to facilities and services, and local capacities. This comparative observation will help us develop more practical plans and determine which types of interventions may be more effective for each area.

Through this continuous field-level process, the aim was not only to identify the challenges but also to give importance to the capacities, knowledge, experiences, and potential of local people. Based on the collected information, opinions of local people, and comparative observations of the two char areas, Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation (SGF) will work to implement more effective, climate-resilient, inclusive, and sustainable community development initiatives under the Green Resilient Village Project.

সিধাইচর, মোল্লারচর ইউনিয়ন, গাইবান্ধা সদরের মানুষের বাস্তব প্রয়োজন, সমস্যা, ঝুঁকি, সম্ভাবনা ও অগ্রাধিকারগুলো আরও গভীরভাবে বোঝার লক্ষ্যে সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশন (SGF)-এর উদ্যোগে এবং অ্যাকশনএইড বাংলাদেশ-এর সহযোগিতায় “Green Resilient Village” প্রকল্পের আওতায় Needs Assessment Study পরিচালনা করা হয়েছে। এই কার্যক্রমের মূল লক্ষ্য ছিল স্থানীয় মানুষের জীবনযাত্রা, জলবায়ু ও দুর্যোগজনিত ঝুঁকি, কৃষি ও জীবিকা, পরিবেশ, বর্জ্য ব্যবস্থাপনা, পানি ও স্যানিটেশনসহ বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে বাস্তব চিত্র তুলে আনা এবং কমিউনিটির প্রকৃত প্রয়োজনের ভিত্তিতে কার্যকর ও টেকসই উদ্যোগ গ্রহণের জন্য একটি শক্তিশালী ভিত্তি তৈরি করা।

প্রয়োজন নিরূপণ কার্যক্রমের অংশ হিসেবে ০৪ আগস্ট ২০২৬ তারিখে সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশন (SGF)-এর ৬ সদস্যের একটি টিম সিধাইচরে প্রাথমিক মাঠ মূল্যায়ন পরিচালনা করে। পরবর্তীতে ১৮–১৯ আগস্ট ২০২৬ স্থানীয় যুব স্বেচ্ছাসেবকদের সম্পৃক্ত করে মাঠ পর্যায়ে তথ্য সংগ্রহ করা হয়। স্থানীয় যুবকদের অংশগ্রহণের মাধ্যমে কমিউনিটির মানুষের সঙ্গে সরাসরি যোগাযোগ স্থাপন, তাদের অভিজ্ঞতা ও মতামত জানা এবং স্থানীয় বাস্তবতার তথ্য সংগ্রহ করা সম্ভব হয়েছে। এরপর ২৬ আগস্ট ২০২৬ সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশন (SGF)-এর ২ সদস্যের একটি টিম পুনরায় সিধাইচরে গিয়ে ফলো-আপ মূল্যায়ন, তথ্য যাচাই ও স্থানীয় পরিস্থিতি পর্যবেক্ষণ করে।

এই Needs Assessment-এর একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ ছিল দুটি চর এলাকার বাস্তব পরিস্থিতি তুলনামূলকভাবে বোঝা। সিধাইচরের পাশাপাশি আমরা কামারজানি ইউনিয়নের কড়াইবাড়ি এলাকাও পরিদর্শন করি। দুটি চর এলাকার মানুষের জীবনযাত্রা, জলবায়ু ঝুঁকি, কৃষি ও জীবিকা, পরিবেশগত সমস্যা, সুযোগ-সুবিধা এবং স্থানীয় সক্ষমতার মধ্যে মিল ও পার্থক্যগুলো বোঝার চেষ্টা করা হয়েছে। এই তুলনামূলক পর্যবেক্ষণ আমাদের জন্য আরও বাস্তবভিত্তিক পরিকল্পনা গ্রহণ এবং কোন ধরনের উদ্যোগ কোন এলাকার জন্য বেশি কার্যকর হতে পারে তা নির্ধারণে সহায়ক হবে।

মাঠ পর্যায়ের এই ধারাবাহিক কার্যক্রমের মাধ্যমে শুধু সমস্যাগুলো চিহ্নিত করাই নয়, বরং স্থানীয় মানুষের সক্ষমতা, জ্ঞান, অভিজ্ঞতা ও সম্ভাবনাকেও গুরুত্ব দেওয়া হয়েছে। সংগৃহীত তথ্য, স্থানীয় মানুষের মতামত এবং দুটি চর এলাকার তুলনামূলক পর্যবেক্ষণের ভিত্তিতে Green Resilient Village প্রকল্পের আওতায় জলবায়ু-সহনশীল, অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক ও টেকসই কমিউনিটি উন্নয়নের উদ্যোগ আরও কার্যকরভাবে বাস্তবায়নে সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশন (SGF) কাজ করবে।
