Colorful Clothes and Eid Food Items Distributed Among Underprivileged Children in Gaibandha

Members of the Gaibandha Prothom Alo Bondhushava distributed new colorful clothes among 51 underprivileged children on Wednesday noon and later distributed vermicelli (semai) and sugar among 10 poor families in the afternoon.

With the support of the voluntary organization Srijonshil Gaibandha Foundation, the members arranged the distribution program at the railway station slum area of Gaibandha town by saving money from their own Eid expenses.

The initiative was organized as part of the “Eid of Compassion” campaign announced by the National Committee of Prothom Alo Bondhushava, aiming to spread the joy of Eid among disadvantaged children.

Among those present were Gaibandha Bondhushava President Mehedi Hasan, General Secretary Nifaul Islam, Organizational Secretary Kashfiha Khanom, Publicity Secretary Khandakar Rimi, Gender and Equality Secretary Athar Mihda Tuba, member of Srijonshil Gaibandha Ranjan Debnath, and Prothom Alo correspondent Shahabul Shaheen.

The children were delighted to receive the colorful new clothes. Eight-year-old Akhi from the railway station slum shared that her family lives in extreme poverty. Another child, Asif (10), lost his father at the age of four. As his mother remarried, he now lives with his grandmother and had no one to buy him new clothes for Eid.

Sharmin said, “This Eid I will go to the Eid ground wearing new clothes like everyone else.”
Farzana (7) expressed her happiness saying, “We are very happy. On Eid day we will go out wearing our new dresses.”
Mitu (8) said, “I asked my father for a shirt but he could not buy one. Today I got a new shirt and I will wear it on Eid.”

Receiving semai and sugar, Asiya (55) from the same area said, “No one gave us anything this Eid. I was worried about how I would feed semai to the children on Eid day. You have removed that worry.”

Advisor of Gaibandha Bondhushava and prominent businessman Abul Hossain Mridha Sohag said, “All members of Bondhushava are students and unemployed. Yet saving money meant for their own Eid clothes to support underprivileged children and families is truly a noble initiative.”

গাইবান্ধা প্রথম আলো বন্ধুসভার সদস্যরা আজ বুধবার দুপুরে ৫১ জন সুবিধাবঞ্চিত শিশুর মধ্যে নতুন রঙিন জামা এবং বিকেলে ১০টি দরিদ্র পরিবারের মাঝে সেমাই ও চিনি বিতরণ করেছেন। স্বেচ্ছাসেবী সংগঠন সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধা ফাউন্ডেশন–এর সহায়তায় বন্ধুসভার সদস্যরা নিজেদের ঈদের খরচের টাকা বাঁচিয়ে গাইবান্ধা শহরের রেলস্টেশন বস্তি এলাকায় এসব বিতরণ করেন।

প্রথম আলো বন্ধুসভার জাতীয় পর্ষদের আহ্বানে “সহমর্মিতার ঈদ” কার্যক্রমের অংশ হিসেবে এবং সুবিধাবঞ্চিত শিশুদের মধ্যে ঈদের আনন্দ ছড়িয়ে দিতে এই জামা বিতরণ করা হয়।

এ সময় উপস্থিত ছিলেন গাইবান্ধা বন্ধুসভার সভাপতি মেহেদী হাসান, সাধারণ সম্পাদক নিফাউল ইসলাম, সাংগঠনিক সম্পাদক কাশফিহা খানম, প্রচার সম্পাদক খন্দকার রিমি, জেন্ডার ও সমতা বিষয়ক সম্পাদক আতহার মিহদা তুবা, সৃজনশীল গাইবান্ধার সদস্য রঞ্জন দেবনাথ এবং প্রথম আলোর প্রতিনিধি শাহাবুল শাহীন প্রমুখ।

নতুন রঙিন জামা পেয়ে খুশিতে ভরে ওঠে সুবিধাবঞ্চিত শিশুরা। রেলস্টেশন বস্তি এলাকার আট বছর বয়সী আঁখি জানায়, তাদের পরিবারের অবস্থা খুবই কষ্টের। একই এলাকার আসিফ (১০) চার বছর বয়সে বাবাকে হারায়। মায়ের অন্যত্র বিয়ে হয়ে যাওয়ায় সে এখন নানীর সঙ্গে থাকে। ঈদে নতুন জামা কিনে দেওয়ার মতো কেউ নেই।

শারমিন বলে, “এবার ঈদে সবার মতো আমিও নতুন কাপড় পরে ঈদের মাঠে যাব।”
একই এলাকার ফারজানা (৭) জানায়, “আমরা খুব খুশি হয়েছি। ঈদের দিন নতুন জামা পরে ঘুরতে যাব।”
মিতু (৮) বলে, “আব্বার কাছে শার্ট চেয়েছিলাম, দেয়নি। আজ নতুন শার্ট পেয়েছি। ঈদের দিন এটা পরে ঘুরব।”

সেমাই ও চিনি পেয়ে একই এলাকার আছিয়া (৫৫) বলেন, “এবার ঈদে কেউ কিছু দেয়নি। ঈদের দিন বাচ্চাদের সেমাই খাওয়াবো কীভাবে, তা নিয়ে চিন্তায় ছিলাম। তোমরা এসে সেই চিন্তা দূর করলে বাবা।”

গাইবান্ধা বন্ধুসভার উপদেষ্টা ও বিশিষ্ট ব্যবসায়ী আবুল হোসেন মৃধা সোহাগ বলেন, “বন্ধুসভার সদস্যরা সবাই শিক্ষার্থী। তারা বেকার। কিন্তু নিজেদের নতুন জামার জন্য বাবা–মায়ের দেওয়া টাকা বাঁচিয়ে সুবিধাবঞ্চিত শিশু ও অসহায় মানুষের জন্য কিছু করাটা সত্যিই একটি মহৎ উদ্যোগ।”
